Welcome to the HP English Community --
True - HP Support accepts Warranty case submission requests using the serial number.
Also apparently true - the submission of the serial number might return an obscure "not valid" message when the hardware Warranty is expired and HP Support is not accepting a case submission request for your out-of-warranty device.
If you like you can ask your question here in the HP Community.
We are not "HP Support" and cannot revolve hardware failures.
We do work for free and there are Experts and Agents who can answer a variety of printer-related questions.
Reminder – New Post – Post New Question
When you submit your question to the Community,
Increase your chances of receiving an answer ---
Provide as much information as possible about the product.
For example,
- Provide the exact model of the device and the Operating System / version
- Do NOT include the serial number -- What? We cannot make use of the information and you should never post private information in a public forum.
- As best you can, describe the issue for which you are seeking our help.
- Tell us what you have tried to fix the problem.

Reminders – READ
Online Case Submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.
Some (Most) regions display phone / chat contact information only after the case is submitted online.
Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty. Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.
HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are usually not accepted.
If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.
