Microsoft Windows 11

I have an Officejet Pro 8500 which I have been using as a wireless printer on Windows 7 for years. I recently had to replace my old computer with a new Windows 11 desktop. When I tried to add the 8500 wirelessly, I was unsuccessful. I eventually got the printer connected to my wireless network with a valid IP address, but Windows would not allow me to add the printer.

Which brings me to asking the following question:

Is the HP Officejet Pro 8500 supported on Windows 11?

It is not listed on the HP website as a supported Windows 11 printer, but before buying a newer printer I wanted to be as sure as I could be that the old printer is not supported but that it just won't work (which is not exactly the same thing).

So could one of the forum gurus answer both the "Is it supported" question, but provide a workaround  that would allow me to get the Windows 11 to allow me to add it? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Tom_in_Florida,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I am afraid, this printer is not compatible with Windows 11, as there are no drivers available currently as this is an older model.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Thanks for the response. Just one more question:

Before I spend money to buy a newer printer, I just want to make sure that you're saying that it's not only incompatible, but also that it will not work with Windows 11 no matter what I do.

I know that sounds like I'm splitting hairs but I just want to make sure.

Hi @Tom_in_Florida,

Thanks for writing back.

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 is supported on Windows 11, so you should not need to buy a new printer. You can use the HP Officejet Pro 8500 with Windows 11.

However, if there are no specific drivers available for Windows 11, you might encounter difficulties. In such cases, you can try using Windows' built-in drivers to continue using your printer.

Hope this helps.

You have me confused. On 7/13 you posted that the 8500 was NOT supported on Windows 11. Today you said it was.

Which post is correct and what caused you to make 2 opposite posts in 3days?

Hi @Tom_in_Florida ,

My bad. However, in the second post, it was explained clearly. Hope that helps.

So you're saying that the printer should work, but there's a problem. I cannot add the printer because Windows doesn't recognize it. And if I can't add the printer to Windows, how can I update the driver?

I really need for you to completely answer my questions in one post instead of just one sentence at a time.

I'm replying one last time. I need to have a functioning printer yesterday. Therefore I need to get the 8500 working or buy a new one. If you don't respond with a fix, I will proceed with buying a new one. And I might just decide to go with another brand if I can't get meaningful help on an HP forum
