HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 printer. I am wondering how to secure my printer from people using it. Is there a way to require a password to print from my printer? Any solutions will help as I want to be the only person to be able to print from the printer.

Hi @WhiteHouse3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are looking for information related to settings a password for your Printer.

Securing your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 printer to ensure only authorized users can print from it involves a few steps. While you can’t set a direct password for printing, you can implement several measures to restrict access:

Change Network Settings:

  • Update Wi-Fi Password: Make sure your printer is connected to a secure Wi-Fi network. Change the Wi-Fi password to prevent unauthorized access to the network.
  • Enable Network Security: Use WPA3 (if supported) or WPA2 encryption for your Wi-Fi network to keep it secure.

Configure Printer Security Settings:

  • Access the Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS): Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your printer (you can find this in the printer’s menu under network settings). This will take you to the EWS where you can configure settings.
  • Change Admin Password: Set a strong administrator password for accessing printer settings through the EWS.

Control Access Through Your Computer:

  • Set Printer Permissions: On Windows, you can set permissions for who can use the printer. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, select Printer properties, and go to the Security tab. Adjust the permissions as needed.

Use Printer Management Software:

  • HP Smart App: HP’s Smart app may offer some access control features. Ensure you have the latest version and check its settings for any options related to print job management or security.
  • Third-Party Solutions: Consider using third-party printer management software that provides more advanced control over print jobs and access.

Enable Print Job Authentication:

  • Some advanced printers and print servers offer features like print job authentication, where users must enter a PIN or password to release their print jobs. However, this feature is not typically available on all consumer-grade printers, including the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015.

Disable Remote Printing:

  • If you don’t need remote printing features, consider disabling them to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
