I have a hp desktop 2820e all in one printer. I've changed WiFi recently. Printed off instructions from printer. Held WiFi and cancel button and gone into HP app and does not connect. There is no printer settings in the app anywhere. How do I change the WiFi please. I've tried connecting my printer to my pc but that does not work.

Hi @Lisa197649,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when you change Wi-Fi, and the printer won’t reconnect. I’ll walk you through the correct way to change Wi-Fi on the HP DeskJet 2820e, step by step.

Step 1: Put the printer into Wi-Fi Setup Mode (very important)

Since the printer may still remember the old network, we need to fully reset its network settings.

  1. Turn the printer ON
  2. Press and hold Cancel (X) + Wireless (📶) buttons together
  3. Hold for 5 seconds, then release
  4. The blue wireless light should blink (this confirms setup mode)

👉 If the light is solid blue, repeat the steps.

Step 2: Reinstall HP App (recommended)

Old settings can block setup.

On your phone / PC:

  1. Uninstall HP App
  2. Restart your device
  3. Reinstall HP Smart from: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site

Step 3: Connect using HP App (correct flow)

  1. Make sure:
    • Your phone/PC is connected to the new Wi-Fi
    • You are on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (the 2820e does NOT support 5 GHz)
  2. Open HP App
  3. Click Set up a new printer or Add printer
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your new Wi-Fi

⚠️ There will not be a “printer settings” menu until the printer is connected; this is normal for this model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
