JetDirect 3100w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I have the M553 printer model B5L25A. I've purchase the JetDirect 3100w to make the printer wireless.

After plugging in the 3100w to the M553 and restarting the printer I get "Invalid USB device is attached. Please remove..."

Can someone help me on what i need to do to have the printer not reject the 3100w?

Thanks, Eric

Maybe you have a defective 3100w, the installation should be plug&play. Any chance you can try 3100w on a different printer?

When you print printers configuration page is 3100W on the list of installed accessories?

Hi Valsimot,

3100W does not show up on the printer's configuration page.

I am also going to mention here that I have the latest firmware for the printer installed.

Do you have a red LED signal on 3100W when plugged and printer turned ON ?

You should have 2 USB on M553 for connection have you tried both ? One is on top near front panel, and 2nd on the back on the main electronics.

The USB one on the side covered with small cap is used for USB printing only.

No LED light turns on the 3100w when it is plugged in to the printer and the printer is then turned on.

I have tried all 3 USB plug in locations on the printer. That includes the hidden location on the top of the printer.

But the printer does know I plugged the 3100w into it because it asks me to remove it each time.

Cold reset will reset the printer to factory defaults, print yourself a network configuration page to know network setting for setup after reset.

Cold reset printer from the preboot menu:

3 Administration -> 8 Startup options -> 2 Cold reset -> OK ->Home (to get back to preboot menu) ->1 Continue

Hi Valsimot,

I've now done the cold reset. The network configuration didn't change much.

I also plugging in the 3100w after the cold reset. Still I get the "invalid USB" error.

Hi,

Sorry about the delay in getting back. I agree this unit must be defective. I’ll be sending it back today.

Thank you for all the help in trying to sort in out.

Did replacing the 3100w card solve your issue? I just got  a new M553 and 3100w card and same issue you describe, firmware up to date; but receive invalid usb.
