Once I have sent a print command to my laserjet pro more times than not my computer gives me a printer error message. I either have to restart my computer or restart the printer in order for the print job to activate. I am also trying to update the firmware but am having no luck finding the right kind of help to get this done.

Hi @TMcNabb,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're encountering two issues with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw:
Wireless Printing Issues: Your printer is not consistently executing wireless print commands, and you often receive a printer error on your computer, which requires a restart of the printer or computer to resolve.
Firmware Update Troubles: You're having difficulty updating the printer's firmware.
Here’s a guide to help troubleshoot both issues:
1. Fixing Wireless Printing Issues
These types of problems can be caused by several factors, such as network connectivity, printer settings, or drivers. Here are steps to troubleshoot:
Check Wireless Connection
- Ensure a stable connection: Confirm that both your printer and computer are connected to the same WiFi network. You can print a wireless network test report from the printer’s control panel to confirm the network details.
- Printer offline: Ensure the printer is not set to "offline" on your PC.
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing. If the printer is shown as offline, right-click it and select Use Printer Online.
Reset Printer Network Settings
If there are persistent network issues, resetting the network settings might help.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
- Reconnect the printer to your WiFi network.
Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Remove the current drivers:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click the HP LaserJet printer and select Remove device.
- Restart your computer.
- Download and install updated drivers:
- Visit the HP Support page for the LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw.
- Download and install the latest printer driver for Windows 11.
Disable Firewall Temporarily (if applicable)
Sometimes, firewall settings can block the printer's communication. Try disabling your firewall temporarily to see if printing works. Make sure to re-enable the firewall afterward.
Set a Static IP for the Printer
If the printer keeps dropping its connection, assigning a static IP may help.
- Print a network configuration page from your printer to find the current IP address.
- Open a web browser, type the printer’s IP address into the address bar, and press Enter to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Go to the Network section and manually set the printer to use a static IP address within your network range.
2. Updating Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
Keeping the firmware up to date can improve printer performance and fix bugs.
Steps to Update the Firmware:
Download the firmware update:
- Go to the HP Support page and locate the latest firmware for your model.
Install Firmware Update via Printer Control Panel:
- Connect your printer to the computer via USB.
- Run the downloaded firmware update file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Alternative: HP Smart App
- If you are using the HP Smart app, it can automatically check for and install firmware updates for your printer. Ensure the app is up-to-date.
