Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Brand new Laserjet M140w.   HPSmart can't find a driver.  Diagnosis & Repair says either "No driver installed" or "Driver Check issue not fixed." 

 

I have tried all the obvious, turning off and rebooting PC, same for printer and router.   And yes, everything is on the same network.  HP Support page can't even locate the printer.

 

About to take this back to Staples, already wasted far too much time trying to get this printer to install.

Tried to register with HP.   Can't find the serial number.  !!!

I understand your frustration with getting the LaserJet M130w driver installed  Here are some detailed steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

 

Check for the Serial Number:

  • The serial number is usually located on a sticker on the back or bottom of the printer. It might also be inside the printer, near the toner cartridge area.
  • Alternatively, you can print a configuration page from the printer itself which often contains the serial number. This can usually be done through the printer's menu under "Reports" or "Information". 

     Refer to this document for steps to find the product details.

Download the Latest Driver Directly:

  • Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter "LaserJet M130w" in the search box and select your specific model from the list.
  • Download the latest full-feature driver for your operating system.

Install the Driver Manually:

  • After downloading the driver, run the installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  • If the installer cannot find the printer automatically, select the option to connect manually. Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your PC.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:  HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • This tool can diagnose and fix many common issues, including driver problems.

Add the Printer Manually (Windows):

  • Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & Scanners" on your PC.
  • Click on "Add a printer or scanner" and wait for it to search.
  • If it doesn't find your printer, select "The printer that I want isn’t listed".
  • Choose "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname".
  • Enter the printer's IP address (this can usually be found on the printer's display under network settings).

Network Connection Check:

  • Ensure your printer is properly connected to the network. You might need to reconnect it using the printer's control panel to ensure it's on the same network as your PC.
  • Verify the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page.

Temporary Disable Firewall/Antivirus:

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the communication between the printer and PC. Temporarily disable these to see if it resolves the issue.

Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model on the HP support page. Updating the firmware might resolve connectivity issues.

Try a Different Connection Method:

  • If you're trying to connect wirelessly, consider using a USB cable temporarily to establish the connection and complete the driver installation. Once installed, you can switch back to a wireless connection if needed.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer.  I had already tried the suggestions in your email.  Never could get HP to acknowledge the serial number, which was clearly indicated on the printer. 

 

Couldn't get the other suggestions to work either.  After three or more hours of frustration, I returned the printer and bought a different brand, which worked out of the box.
