LaserJet Pro M255DW
I have connected via WiFi Direct and/or via network - always to my phone, and even though the printer shows that there's one device connected (there's no other devices around) it refuses to print.
It was working fine, then I mistakenly downloaded the recommended firmware upgrade onto the printer. Since then, it hasn't printed a single page. I have done a rlfactory reset and reconnected my phone, but still nothing.
Please help!

@Printer437, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It's frustrating when your printer stops working correctly, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Since the problem began after a firmware update, here's a step-by-step guide to help get your HP LaserJet Pro M255dw working again with your phone:
Check Connections:
- Ensure your printer and phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- If using Wi-Fi Direct, ensure it's enabled on the printer and that your phone is connected to the printer's Wi-Fi Direct network.
Firmware Update Verification:
- Double-check that the firmware update was fully installed. Sometimes an incomplete update can cause issues. You may want to try reinstalling the firmware.
- Visit the HP support page to check for any patches or updates released after the problematic firmware update.
Clear Print Queue:
- On your phone, clear any pending print jobs that might be stuck and re-attempt to print.
HP Smart App:
- Install the HP Smart App from your app store, which can help manage printing tasks and diagnose issues from your mobile device.
- Use the app to ensure the printer is set up correctly and to update any necessary settings.
Self-Diagnostic Tests:
- Run a self-test on the printer to see if it can print a test page. This can typically be done from the printer's control panel under "Reports" or "Print Test Page."
Network Settings Check:
- Ensure that the printer's wireless settings are correctly configured and match those of your home network.
- Restart your router and reconnect your printer and phone to the network.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- On your phone, remove the printer under the printing settings, and add it back. Sometimes, this helps reestablish a proper connection.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
