What a scam the whole Instant Ink scheme is! I've been signed up and paying into it for years, but because I've hardly used the printer for the last year, decided to cancel and save the (rapidly rising) monthly charge.

I needed to print a postage label today but the printer didn't respond - after 10 minutes of faffing about I checked status online only to see that the cartridges are now locked to me since leaving Instant Ink! What a joke.

The cartridges I paid for for all those months - one of which I put in only last week - are now unusable. Why can't I finish it off? - I bought it, they've had my money! This is really underhand of HP - not to mention very wasteful!

It smacks of pure corporate greed - forcing people to buy new ink. Well not me. I'm going to bin the printer and buy an Epson - it was never that good to begin with! So long HP, your scheme sucks.

Hi @Jonrob20,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you have cancelled the instant ink service and still using the instant ink cartridges.

HP Instant Ink is based on pages, not cartridges. Your monthly fee allows you to use our subscription cartridges to print your plan pages and includes ink or toner, delivery and recycling.

If your instant ink is cancelled successfully based on your billing cycle, then you will have to replace all the ink cartridges with regular genuine ink cartridges to resume printing.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
