Hi @mac02,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're locked out of your HP Officejet 8600 Plus printer after changing your router/modem, it's likely due to the printer still trying to connect to the old Wi-Fi network settings. Here’s how you can resolve this issue and reconnect your printer to the new network:
1. Reset Printer Network Settings
Reset Wi-Fi Settings: The simplest approach is to reset the network settings on your HP Officejet 8600 Plus. This will clear any old network configurations and allow you to set it up fresh with your new router/modem.
- On the Printer: From the printer's control panel, navigate to the wireless or network settings menu.
- Reset Option: Look for an option to reset network settings or Wi-Fi settings. Confirm the reset when prompted.
Restart Printer: After resetting the network settings, restart your printer to apply the changes.
2. Set Up Wi-Fi Connection Again
Wi-Fi Setup Wizard: Once the printer restarts, it should enter a setup mode where it searches for available Wi-Fi networks.
- Printer Control Panel: Follow the on-screen instructions to select your new Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password.
Confirm Connection: After entering the network credentials, the printer should connect to the new Wi-Fi network. Look for confirmation on the printer's control panel or print a network configuration page to verify the connection.
3. Update Printer Information on Connected Devices
Update Printer on Devices: After reconnecting the printer to the Wi-Fi network, update the printer information on any computers or devices that use the printer.
- Windows/Mac: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners (Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (Mac). Remove the old printer entry if necessary and add the printer again with the new network settings.
4. Factory Reset (If Needed)
Last Resort: If resetting the network settings doesn’t work, consider performing a factory reset on your printer.
- Factory Reset: This will restore the printer to its original factory settings, erasing all configurations including Wi-Fi settings. Use caution as this will also remove any custom settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
