HP LaserJet M209dw Printer

Just got this unit.  lpd (port 515) is enabled by default.  This is a decades old protocol, and has generally worked on anything I've used over the years.

I set this up on both NetBSD as well as Linux.  Old school lpd as well as lprng.  Same results.

lpd on local machine basically says "success", front LED bar on printer pulses, but nothing ever prints.

Here is a snip of debug from lprng for example:

2024-05-24-16:56:22.715 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'connecting to 'm209dw.internal.burn.net', attempt 1'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.716 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'connected to 'm209dw.internal.burn.net''

2024-05-24-16:56:22.716 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'requesting printer lp@m209dw.internal.burn.net'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.717 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'sending control file 'cfA282debian.local' to lp@m209dw.internal.burn.net'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.718 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'completed sending 'cfA282debian.local' to lp@m209dw.internal.burn.net'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.718 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'sending data file 'dfA282debian.local' to lp@m209dw.internal.burn.net'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.722 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'completed sending 'dfA282debian.local' to lp@m209dw.internal.burn.net'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.722 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: setstatus: msg 'done job 'vom@debian+282' transfer to lp@m209dw.internal.burn.net'

2024-05-24-16:56:22.722 debian [3285] (Worker - Remote)  lp: Remote_job: vom@debian+282, status 'NO ERROR'

Anyone else ran into this ?  I also have an M479fdw.  Obviously a bigger printer, and lpd works fine there.  Seems like it runs a more robust OS under the hood than this little 209.

I have a case open with HP - but they don't really understand what I'm even saying ☹️

Is there any other channel to file a "bug" with HP on something like this ?
