HP Color LaserJet M254dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently updated the firmware in several HP Color LaserJet M254dw models from a 2017 version (not sure the exact version) to the 20211109 version.  After the update, SNMP v1/v2 seems to be broken.  The issue affects every printer that was updated to the latest firmware version.  The settings appear fine in the printer.  SNMP v1/v2 is enabled with the defaults.  The printers show offline on the printer server as well as on Windows desktops.  Installing the printers via direct IP gives the same result (shows offline).  The only way I can print now is by turning off SNMP status on the port on the print servers or Windows desktops.  Anybody come across this?  Is it a bad firmware update?

Yes. I've had 2 M281's doing the same. Shows Offline with this firmware.

I did some more troubleshooting and it looks like SNMP is working, the printers are just reporting the wrong status.

HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceStatus.1 = INTEGER: down(5)
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceErrors.1 = Counter32: 1
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrPrinterStatus.1 = INTEGER: other(1)
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrPrinterDetectedErrorState.1 = Hex-STRING: 02

Should be something like this:

HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceStatus.1 = INTEGER: running(2)
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceErrors.1 = Counter32: 1
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrPrinterStatus.1 = INTEGER: idle(3)
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrPrinterDetectedErrorState.1 = Hex-STRING: 00

I can confirm, turning off "SNMP status Enabled" under Printer Properties>Port>Configure Port will fix the issue.

Yes, that does allow you to print, but it is a workaround not an actual fix.  At this point, I think it is a firmware issue that needs to be fixed by HP.  Unfortunately, these printers are not under warranty so I don't think I can get any support from HP.

I am in the same boat.  SNMP is not working on my HP M283fdw.  None of the computers in the house can print or scan after a firmware update from v20200324 to v20211122.  I tried to downgrade but could not find my previous firmware version anywhere on the web.  So, while waiting for a permanent fix, this is what I did to get around on my Windows 10 v21H1.
Printing: uncheck SNMP on the printer port settings.

Scanning: open a web browser, go to the ip address of the printer.  Go to SCAN>Network Folder Setup.  Then edit each Network Path and Username by changing the computer name to IP Address.  Example:
For Network Path: change from \\ComputerName\HPScan to \\192.168.1.14\HPScan
For Username: change from ComputerName\UserID to 192.168.1.14\UserID

Prevent printer from auto firmware update: on the printer, go to Setup>Service>LaserJet Update>Mange Update>Allow Downgrade=Yes, Check Automatically=Off, Allow Updates=Yes

On my NETGEAR C7000 router, under LAN Setup, I added the IP Addresses associated with each of the computers in the house to the ADDRESS RESERVATION list.  This forces those IPs to remain fixed.

This workaround is suitable for a small home office setting.  It is not feasible for a large network environment.

I have the exact same issue with my MFP M281fdw.

SNMP OID .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.2.1.5.1 returns 5 (down) while the printer is clearly online.

I prefere to use SNMP for my printers so the OS knows if a printer is offline and why.

So I had to downgrade my firmware, in my case all the way to firmware 20200612 because that's the latest firmware to still support non-HP toner cartridges...

Where did you download the older firmware?
