Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is there a way to remove the requirement of having a network connection for the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw?

Every month I have to connect it to the network once (which means I get to have a trip hazard with an Ethernet cable going across the room). After I get it to connect to the network and do a print, I can then remove it from the network and continue using it with the USB cable. Wi-Fi connection is not an option (this printer has no user interface, so I can't input the password). I don't have the admin password for the router, so I can't remove the Wi-Fi password.

This month it is fighting me like a toddler on a sugar rush fights bedtime. Printer information page shows that the the Ethernet is connected and gives an IP address, but HP Smart says the printer doesn't have an internet connection. When I use the diagnose/fix option, HP Smart doesn't find any problems. Unplugging the printer and discharging any residual power doesn't fix it either.

There is no requirement to have a network connection. I would recommend you uninstall HP Smart and install a full driver/software on your computer from hp.com

I will try downloading the drivers and post the results. After multiple restarts and trying to run the installer as admin, I am unable to install the printer with the driver you showed in your response. The installer doesn't detect the printer is connected with a USB cable. If I choose "Continue the installation without connecting now, I will connect the device later.", then it finishes it because it says I don't have the printer connected even though I do. The USB cable works great with the LaserJet M1212 that I typically use.

The information page that I printed off this morning contradicts your statement about the internet connection.

I am so glad the printer I have at home is an Epson. Over 8 years old and the only issue I ever had was forgetting to get ink before I ran out.
