Common problems for Connectivity Issues

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

This printer was working fine on my Win 7 machine for over 3 years when suddenly, it stopped scanning. When I launched the printer utility, there was no scan tab at all.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times with the full driver package from hp.com to no avail.

Finally chatted with online support who said they did not support Win 7 any more. 

I went ahead and upgraded my PC to Win10 64 bit but same problem.

I have gone to the web interface of the printer to "turn on web scan service" but cannot find it.

Help please!

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list. 
  2. Restart the PC
  3. Close all programs
  4. download only this complete package: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw/M283fdw Printer Full Software Solution 
    File name: Full_Webpack-44.11.2784-LJM282-M285_UWWL_4_1_Full_Webpack.exe (207.7 MB)
  5. download only this complete package: Readiris Pro 16 for HP 
    File name: Readiris16_5_ProHPWin.zip (384.0 MB)
  6. Close all programs
  7. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the Full_Webpack-44.11.2784-LJM282-M285_UWWL_4_1_Full_Webpack.exe
  8. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
  9. Restart the System again
  10. Now the installation is complete.
  11. start Windows Explorer and
    unzip the zip file: Readiris16_5_ProHPWin.zip into the download folder
    close Explorer
  12. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the setup.exe
  13. Restart the System again

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

Thanks for your help.

The following worked for me:

1. Reset printer to factory state by going to web interface of printer (192.168.1.170 on my network).

2. Uninstalled ANYTHING which said HP on my computer.

3. Downloaded HP Smart from HP website and went thru the steps to identify printer, install software etc.

4. Now everything works: scanning can be initialed from the HP Smart window.
