Details: iMac 2019/MacOS 1.51 also iPhone 11 and 13 and iPad iOS 18.01
Situation: iMac does not see M277dw printer, it sees scanner but scanner reports unavailable.
Challenge: M277dw was showing offline on iMac. Restart (multiple) of printer and Mac had no effect.
Actions: Following trouble shooting recommendations, I deleted printer from iMac. Unable to see M277dw to do a reinstall. Other wifi Dell printer on system is working fine over wifi from iMac. HP M277dw is functioning correctly on the wifi network with iPhones and iPad. Attempts to access M277 with iOS Printer & Scanner or HP Utility have been fruitless.
I'm out of ideas. Any assistance is welcome.

Hi @JMCSD1975,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I can imagine how frustrating it must be when everything else works, but your iMac refuses to see the printer, especially when it’s functioning fine with other devices. Let’s see if we can get this resolved.
- Does your iMac show any error message or just fail to list the M277dw printer when trying to reconnect it?
- Have you checked if your iMac is on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer (sometimes networks can be split into different bands, like 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz)?
- When you try to add the printer through the “Printers & Scanners” settings on your iMac, does the M277dw show up at all, or is it completely absent?
Let's try these steps.
Check Network Configuration
- Ensure that both your iMac and the HP M277dw are on the same Wi-Fi network, especially confirming they are both connected to the same band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). Sometimes devices on different bands can cause connection issues.
Reboot Router
- Power cycle your Wi-Fi router. Sometimes, network hiccups can prevent devices from seeing each other, and a router reboot can resolve connectivity issues.
Reset Printer Network Settings
- Reset the printer’s network settings by using the printer’s control panel. This will clear any old settings and allow the printer to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network cleanly. Afterward, try reconnecting the printer from your iMac.
Reinstall Printer Using IP Address
- If the M277dw still doesn’t appear in the “Printers & Scanners” list, try manually adding it using its IP address. You can find the printer’s IP by printing a configuration page from the printer’s control panel. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > + and select Add Printer using the IP address option.
Reset the Printing System on iMac
- If the printer is still not recognized, try resetting the entire printing system on your iMac. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list, and select Reset Printing System. Afterward, try adding the M277dw again.
Note: This could be a compatibility issue. Click here for more information.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Thanks for the response... here's the status report posted by line item from your email:
Network Configuration: is correct, other devices see the HP MFP277 and print.
Router Reboot: Done
Reset Printer Network Settings: Not done, as it is functioning correctly with other devices.
** Reinstall Using IP Address: Attempted as described. Mac returns the following error:
"The software for the printer was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the software from the manufacturer." This following the Apple troubleshooting procedure, where one step is to reset the print system on the iMac, which removes all printer files. Reinstallation of HP drivers using the HP driver file returns the error: That this file is for Mac OS 15 and below, so replacement drivers will not install.
Reset Printing System on the iMac: Done as discussed above durning the iMac troubleshooting.
This leads me to think that there will be a wait for HP to update the drivers for MacOS 15.1 and above.

To add more information to this challenge:
I have gone to the support page at https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m277-series/model/7089949?sku=B3Q11A&... where I downloaded the EasyStart Package dated November 12, 2024 and installed the application.
When application activated, it opens the "Download Software" dialog and will show "hp color laserjet mfp m277dw" in the search window. When search is done, the following dialogue is displayed: "We were not able to automatically locate any software options for this product. Please go to the HP Website and search for product solutions there.
There, I find myself in a Do-Loop, as search for driver updates returns me to the support page above.
This seems to be a very recent development, as on 11/19/2024, I was able to download the HP driver .dmg file which did open and create the HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg. When this file is mounted with the installer.app, it returns the dialog: "This update requires macOS version 15.0 or earlier."
I have been able to overcome a similar problem with my Dell H825cdw by reinstalling the driver and then using the MacOS Printer and Scanners/Add Printer app and install using the IP address. That required opening the driver .pkg file which I can't do with the HP .pkg as stated above. As I wait a fix from HP, I'm getting a lot of exercise going up/down stairs to the Dell printer for my work product, which schedule-wise is suboptimal. I may have to move that massive black beast up to my office if this goes on much longer.
Please fix the driver/install package...! Please.

I am having exactly the same problem. The problem started with the MacOS 15.1 upgrade, and continues with the 15.1.1 upgrade.
The printer worked fine until the upgrade to 15.1. My mac with the problem is an ARM based mac. Interestingly, the same printer is working fine with a different mac laptop that is x86 based, even though that mac is also running macOS 15.1.1. So I suspect the problem only occurs on the newer ARM-based macs.
As with the original poster, I tried deleting the printer and reinstalling it. But the installer can't find the printer now. I have tried power cycling the printer and upgrading the mac from 15.1 to 15.1.1. Nothing has worked so far.

Elohi....
I'll open the private message, but will add more here for those in the thread:
1. iMac running OS 15.1.1 will not open the HP driver files. When attempted, it returns the error message: "...for use with Mac OS 15 and below"
2. Easy start does not see M227dw driver files at all
3. It was possible to gain access to my Dell printer using the IP address, however it does not print correctly (e.g. prints one slide of PowerPoint deck and then goes stupid). Based on this observation and previous dialog from a number of posts, I'm fairly confident that even if it is possible to regain access to the HP M277dw, it too, will not handle print jobs correctly.
4. I could be wrong, but I think this is going to require HP update the driver files AND Apple has to correct the errors contained in the 15/15.1/15.1.1 update.
5. My work around has been to load and print files from my iOS devices to my HP printer. It works, but it's a PITA and it puts me just one iOS update error from being unable to print.
