I have two macbook pro's running on Sonoma IOS. One of the macbooks connects to the printer wirelessly but the other one doesn't. I also have two iphones and a PC laptop that all connect to the printer wirelessly. All of the devices are running on 5ghz and I have a dual band router that connects two 2.4ghz and 5ghz. What can I do to get the macbook to connect wirelessly? When I try to print it says the printer is offline even though it appears as ready with a green checkmark in the HP Smart app.

Hi @epox12,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your MacBook is having trouble establishing a proper wireless connection with the HP LaserJet M110w printer, despite other devices working fine. Here's a checklist of steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Check MacBook's Wi-Fi Network
- Ensure that both your MacBook and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi band (2.4GHz or 5GHz). While your printer can work with 5GHz, it's possible that one of the MacBooks is switching between bands or only communicating on 2.4GHz.
2. Restart Devices
- Restart the MacBook that is having trouble, the printer, and your router.
- After restarting, confirm that the MacBook is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and see if it detects the printer.
3. Update macOS and Printer Drivers
- Update macOS to the latest version (Sonoma updates might have fixes for connectivity issues).
- Make sure you have installed the latest HP printer drivers for macOS. You can check for driver updates via HP Easy Start or by visiting the HP support page for your printer model.
4. Re-add the Printer
- Remove the printer from your MacBook’s printer list:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
- Then, re-add the printer:
- Click the plus (+) button to add the printer again.
- Look for the printer on the network and ensure it’s being added as a Bonjour or AirPrint device if possible.
5. Check Printer's Network Settings
- In the HP Smart app, confirm that the printer's wireless status is active and connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- You may also want to print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to verify the connection details.
6. Try Direct IP Printing
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners on your MacBook.
- Click the plus (+) button to add a printer manually, and select IP.
- Enter the printer’s IP address (you can find this on the Network Configuration Page or in the HP Smart app) and configure it to connect directly.
7. Reset Printing System (if all else fails)
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click anywhere in the printer list and select "Reset printing system".
- This will remove all printers from the MacBook, and you’ll need to re-add them.
8. Test on 2.4GHz
- Temporarily switch your MacBook and printer to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, as some printers perform more reliably on 2.4GHz networks. After testing, you can switch back to 5GHz if needed.
9. Check Firewall Settings
- Ensure that the firewall on your MacBook is not blocking printer communication:
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Firewall.
- If the firewall is on, check the settings to allow HP services.
After trying these steps, the MacBook should be able to communicate with the HP LaserJet M110w wirelessly.
Refer to this document: HP LaserJet M110w Printer User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
