HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

Hi I hope I can get some information or some assistance on my issue.

I have a Deskjet 4650 got it in 2016 still works fine except that for wireless printing from my iPhone is a hassle. Most times I have to turn it off then on for it to print. I also have to submit the job and wait a while then it may print. I have reset and reconnect the wifi same issue.

This printer is right next to the router so there should not be any signal loss but it sure takes is time to print a job.

This is all I have for now so if there is anyone can help I'd appreciate it very much.

Hi @Jr506,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like you're experiencing intermittent wireless printing issues with your HP Deskjet 4650 when printing from your iPhone. Here are some steps and considerations to help improve the wireless printing reliability:

Restart Printer and Router:

  • Since you've already reset and reconnected the Wi-Fi, try restarting both your printer and your router simultaneously. This can help refresh their connection and resolve temporary communication issues.

Check Wireless Signal Strength:

  • Even if the printer is next to the router, obstacles or interference can affect wireless signal strength. Ensure there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices that might interfere with the Wi-Fi signal.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your HP Deskjet 4650 has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can address performance and connectivity issues. Check the HP support website for instructions on how to update your printer's firmware.
  • If you do not find any drivers or firmware, that means, this printer is not compatible with your current os as this is an obsolete model.

Check iPhone Wi-Fi Settings:

  • Verify that your iPhone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer. Sometimes, devices can inadvertently connect to a different network.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Install and use the HP Smart app on your iPhone for printing. This app can often provide better connectivity and troubleshooting options compared to AirPrint.

Printer IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer through your router's settings. This ensures that the printer always has the same IP address and can help with consistent connectivity.

Check Printer Sleep Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer's sleep or power saving settings are not overly aggressive. If the printer enters sleep mode too quickly, it may not respond immediately to print jobs.

Quality of Service (QoS) Settings:

  • If your router supports Quality of Service (QoS) settings, prioritize your printer's traffic to ensure smoother printing operations.

Reset Network Settings on iPhone:

  • As a troubleshooting step, you can reset network settings on your iPhone. This clears any saved Wi-Fi networks and settings, which might resolve connectivity issues.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, consider contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Thank you for your reply to my issue.

I have tried all you have said and still acts up.

Per the firmware update each time I try to access it on my he site I get a message saying warr has expired and it does not allow me to get to any firmware that's available for that machine.

I am wondering if this due to its age. But thanks and I'll revisit your solutions and see if it improves.
