Sure - can be done.

 

Printers that do not include an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) can scan and "Add Pages" - workable if slow.

 

Printers that include an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) make the task easier.

 

The few top-shelf printers that include automatic 2-sided scanning make the task more pleasant.

 

The Operating System makes a difference because that dictates which apps and software can be used.

 

The size of the document makes a difference - very large scan jobs tend to collapse regardless of the printer.  The results do tend to follow the strength of the connection, the printer memory, and the density of the content.
