My HP ENVY Pro 6458 All-in-One Printer repeatedly shows as “off line”. I connect to it via WiFi. I usually have to unplug the unit, wait 10 seconds then plug it back in. I may have to do this several times per day when I have a lot of printing.
How can I ensure the printer stays connect ed to my WiFi persistently?
I’m ready to ditch HP and try another brand of home printer.

Hi @W-P721,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are facing offline issues. I’d like to help!
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Make sure, your printer and your device are on the same network as 2.4GHZ only.
Assign a static IP address to the printer
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

this has been an issue for my same printer, HP Envy Pro 6458, I too had to turn off my printer, and restart it..."offline" was getting to me as well. This process you provided I hope will work now. Time will tell. I did have an error message after hitting the "Apply" after typing in the manual "8.8.8.8" and the "8.8.4.4". I would click "OK" to go back and it would again give me the error "can't connect to printer". But once i closed out the window and clicked the "printers new IP address" it showed the correct entry. So, keep that in mind folks, once you click "apply", just have to close out the window on the browser and click on the printer's new IP address. And everything will show the new "manual" settings
