When I type my wi-fi password into the password box, it keeps giving the message "The network security key isn't correct. Please try again." However, this password is correct, as I am using it on all of my apple products, but it will not work for just this one device. The wi-fi is not the problem. I have tried:
- resetting the modem
- going back to factory adapter settings
- restarting my laptop
- updating my laptop
- forgetting all wi-fi networks
- updating all adapters
Nothing has worked and I have no clue what else I can do.

Hi @Aehrhorn, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since you've already tried most common troubleshooting steps, let's go through some additional solutions that might help resolve the issue:
Check for Special Characters in the Password
- Windows sometimes has issues with certain special characters in Wi-Fi passwords. Try changing the Wi-Fi password temporarily to something simpler (e.g., only letters and numbers) and see if your laptop connects.
Manually Add the Network
- Open Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Manage known networks.
- Click Add a new network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password, set the security type (usually WPA2-Personal or WPA3), and check Connect automatically.
- Click Save and try connecting.
Use the Network Troubleshooter
- Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Network Adapter troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart the WLAN AutoConfig Service
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down to WLAN AutoConfig, right-click it, and select Restart.
- Set its Startup type to Automatic.
Change Wireless Network Mode
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Network Adapters → Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and find Wireless Mode or 802.11 Mode.
- Set it to 802.11ac or Auto (if available).
- Click OK and restart the laptop.
Disable IPv6
- Open Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change adapter settings.
- Right-click on Wi-Fi → Properties.
- Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
- Click OK and restart your laptop.
Reset Network Settings
- Open Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings.
- Scroll down and click Network reset → Reset now.
- Restart your laptop and try connecting again.
Check Router Settings
- Log into your router settings via a web browser (typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
- Look for MAC address filtering and disable it if enabled.
- Change Wi-Fi security to WPA2-PSK (AES).
- Ensure the SSID is visible (not hidden).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
