Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

My printer is offline pretty much all the time and only prints once a week as it's supposed to. I tried everything possible to get it to work. As in, I've turned it on and off countless times, restarted the router, etc. I tried to add the IP address that I got off of the network report, but when I type it into the web browser, I get the following message: Safari can't open the page "INSERT IP ADDRESS HERE" because the server where this page is located isn't responding. I bought the printer only 14 months ago and this has been happening for like the last six. It was working perfectly fine before that. I want to throw this thing out the window. SO DISAPPOINTING!

Hi @abc12345698,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer is constantly offline, especially when it was working fine before. Let’s try to address this issue systematically. Here’s a comprehensive approach to troubleshooting and hopefully resolving the problem with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e:

1. Check Printer’s Network Connection

a. Wireless Network Status:

  • On the Printer: Go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Wireless settings, and check the status. Ensure that it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • Network Report: Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s settings to check the connection status and IP address.

b. Check Printer’s IP Address:

  • Ensure that the IP address displayed on the Network Configuration Page is correct. Sometimes the IP address might change due to DHCP settings on your router.

2. Verify Router and Network Settings

a. IP Address Conflicts:

  • Router Settings: Log into your router’s admin interface (usually by entering 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into a web browser) and check for IP address conflicts. Ensure the printer’s IP address is not conflicting with another device on your network.

b. Router Firmware Update:

  • Update Firmware: Ensure your router’s firmware is up-to-date. Router updates can fix bugs and improve connectivity.

3. Printer and Computer Connectivity

a. Ping the Printer:

  • Command Prompt/Terminal: Open Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac) and type ping [printer IP address]. This will test if your computer can communicate with the printer over the network.
    • Example: ping 192.168.1.100

b. Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Remove and Re-add Printer: On your computer, go to Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac), remove the printer, and then add it again using the HP Smart app or the printer’s IP address.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your thorough answer.

I have been trying to add and re-add the printer countless times, but the HP system won't let me delete it because I'm on an ink subscription plan (even though I've paused it just for this purpose).

Also, how do I change the IP address for the printer in case I find out that my router's IP address is slightly different? That is the IP address I'm supposed to check, correct?

Hi @abc12345698,

Thank you for your response.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a few issues involving your HP printer and its connection, particularly with the HP Instant Ink subscription affecting your ability to manage your printer. Let’s address these issues step-by-step.

1. Managing Your HP Instant Ink Subscription

**a. Removing Printer from Instant Ink:

  • Pause or Cancel Subscription: Even though you've paused your subscription, it might still be tied to the printer in the system. Ensure that you’ve fully paused or canceled the subscription through the HP Instant Ink website or by contacting HP support directly.
  • Try Again Later: Sometimes, after pausing the subscription, it may take a short period for the system to update. Try re-adding the printer again after some time.

2. Changing the Printer’s IP Address

If you need to change the IP address of your printer due to router or network configuration changes, follow these steps:

**a. Check Current IP Address:

  • Print Network Configuration Page:
    • On the Printer: Navigate to Setup > Network > Print Network Configuration Page. This will provide the current IP address and other network details.

**b. Assign a New IP Address:

  • Access Printer Settings:
    • On the Printer: Go to Setup > Network > Wireless Settings or Network Setup.
    • Manual IP Configuration: Look for an option like Manual IP Setup or Advanced Settings where you can enter a new IP address. Make sure it is within the correct range for your network and does not conflict with other devices.
    • Save Settings: Save your changes and restart the printer if required.

**c. Update Printer’s IP Address on Your Computer:

  • Windows:
    1. Open Devices and Printers: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-Click Printer: Right-click your HP printer and select Printer Properties.
    3. Change IP Address: Go to the Ports tab, select the port used by your printer, and click Configure Port. Enter the new IP address here and save changes.
  • Mac:
    1. Open Printers & Scanners: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select Printer: Click on your HP printer, then click Options & Supplies.
    3. Change IP Address: In the General tab, update the IP address if necessary.

**d. Verify Network Connection:

  • Check Connectivity: Ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer and other devices. You can print a network configuration page from the printer to verify this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
