Common problems for Connectivity Issues

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One printer indicates that it is offline and won’t scan documents, the issue is often related to connectivity or software settings. Here’s how to resolve the problem:

 

Step 1: Check the Printer Connection

Restart the Devices:

  • Turn off your printer, computer, and router.
  • Wait for 1-2 minutes, then turn the router back on.
  • Turn on the printer and computer once the router is fully operational.

Check Wi-Fi Status:

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Wireless Settings and check the connection status.

Reconnect the Printer:

  • If disconnected, select Wireless Setup Wizard under Wireless Settings on the printer and reconnect it to your network.

Ping the Printer (Optional for advanced users):

  • On your computer, open the Command Prompt and type ping [printer's IP address].
  • If there’s no response, the printer isn’t communicating with the network.

Step 2: Set the Printer Online

  1. Open the Devices and Printers window:
    • On Windows, type "Devices and Printers" in the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Right-click on the HP OfficeJet 4650 and select See what’s printing.
  3. Click on Printer in the top-left menu and ensure that:
    • "Use Printer Offline" is unchecked.
    • "Pause Printing" is also unchecked.

Step 3: Update the Printer Driver

  1. Open Device Manager and locate your printer under "Printers".
  2. Right-click your printer, select Update driver, and choose Search automatically for drivers.
  3. Alternatively, download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet 4650 from the HP Support website.

Step 4: Reinstall the Printer in HP Smart

  1. Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app:
    • On Windows, go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Uninstall.
    • Reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Open HP Smart and add your printer by following the on-screen instructions.
  3. Use the Scan feature within HP Smart to test if scanning works.

Step 5: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website.
  2. Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix connectivity and scanning issues.

Step 6: Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the printer and wall outlet.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure the default printer is set correctly in your computer settings.
  • Verify that your printer is not in Energy Saver or sleep mode.
  • Ensure your firewall or antivirus software isn’t blocking the printer's connection.
