My Wi-Fi seems to confuse my two HP printers, an ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One and a LaserJet Pro 4001n where it show the Host Name of the 7855 as the 4001n instead of the correct HPBF5B81.
Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this?

Hi @TheTaxman,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there might be a network configuration issue causing your printers to get mixed up. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you resolve the issue.
- Ensure Each Printer Has a Unique Hostname: Log in to your router's settings and check the hostname assigned to each printer. Make sure they are unique. If they're not, you can usually change the hostname in the printer settings.
- Static IP Assignment: Assign static IP addresses to each printer. This ensures that they always have the same IP address on your network, which can help prevent confusion.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for both printers. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix compatibility issues and improve network stability.
- Reset Printers: Try resetting both printers to their factory default settings. This can sometimes resolve network configuration issues.
- Reconnect Printers to Wi-Fi: Disconnect both printers from your Wi-Fi network and reconnect them one at a time. Follow the instructions provided by the HP Smart app or the printers' user manuals to ensure they are connected correctly.
- Reinstall HP Smart App: If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app. This can sometimes fix software-related issues that may be causing the confusion.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue of your printers being confused on your Wi-Fi network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your prompt response.
It took me a bit to figure out how to change the Host Name, but i found it. That may have been part of the problem because my LaserJet was listed as "HP" only. However, it didn't resolve the issue.
I think the IP addresses are static as every time I disconnect and reconnect the printers they have the same address.
I have installed HP Smart and I think all of the firmware is up to date.
I'm not sure how to reset the printers to factory defaults, so I'll look around Settings, online, etc., and see if I can find it.
The next thing I need to do is reboot all of my devices, but that will have to wait until this evening as I have more work to do today.
Thanks again for your valuable advice. I'll be in touch after I have gone through the rest of your suggestions.
Best regards,
John (The Taxman)
