After working flawlessly for three years the printer now refuses to connect to wifi. I have tried resetting it and the router to no avail. Rebooting the iMac does no good either. Smart HP is no help. The router has no WPS button.

It may have a virtual WPS button or it may accept a PIN from the printer such as this Arris modem

The printer supports both the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz band.
You may want to force the printer to use only one band. This can prevent it from getting a different IP address depending on the band it connects to. What this video to see how to set the band.

You can get the PIN and any passwords from a printer report as described on page 9 of the users manual.
Page 22 shows how to use the WPS or push button method but you need access to the modem to be able to do this.

Let me know if you have a flex system (WiFi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is more complicated.

Depending on which booster you are using, the printer can get a different lP address. It will be connected to the router but will not be reachable from a PC unless it is in the same subnet or the PC is using the hostname of the printer to communicate instead of the IP address.
I assume you want the printer connected to the modem /. router and you are not using WIFi direct.
I do not know enough about MacOS to explain how to use the hostname instead of the IP address so I recommend you use a fixed ip address.
Connect the printer to the main modem. Log into the modem and look for the printers Mac address and make sure the DHCP server uses a fixed allocation. Later on, even if the printer connects to a repeater or booster, it will be given the IP address from the main modem.
Connecting an Eero booster to a printer is described here. Note that when "reserved IP:" is mentioned, that is just another name for using a fixed IP address.

Usually flex vendors have their own forums to provide help configuring the boosters /.repeaters.
Eero has one
