HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have had my HP Officejet Pro 8715 for like 8-10 years and I have always loved it.  It has worked great and has so many features.

About a month ago I was prompted (from the printer itself) to update my firmware.   Which I did because it has been a great printer and it was an instruction from HP.

Well, ever since I did that update,  I can no longer access the internet  which means I can no longer print from my computer which is the specific purpose of having the Office Jet!    I have tried Web Direct as well as Set up Wireless from the printer settings and it responds by saying those settings have been disabled...    what is going on!!!

I have wasted a month's  time going around in circles trying to get this resolved.    What did you do HP!!!!

Hi @8082025,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the firmware update may have caused some settings to change or introduced a bug that is interfering with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715's internet and wireless connectivity. Here's how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Step 1: Verify Printer Settings

Check Wireless Setup:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  • If wireless is disabled, try enabling it. If it doesn't allow you, proceed to reset the network settings (Step 3).

Restore Network Defaults:

  • Go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Confirm and restart your printer.

Step 2: Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Sometimes issues can arise from a partially updated firmware. You can check if there's a newer update available:

  1. Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
  2. Ensure your printer is connected via USB to a computer if it cannot access the internet. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool (next step) to update firmware via a USB connection.

Step 3: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix connectivity issues.
  3. Check for and apply any firmware updates directly through this tool.

Step 4: Reconnect the Printer to the Network

  1. Restart your printer, computer, and router.
  2. Go to Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer control panel (found under Settings > Network Setup).
    • Follow the prompts to connect to your WiFi network.
    • Ensure you're entering the correct network credentials.

Step 5: Factory Reset the Printer

If the above steps don't work:

Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

  • This will reset all printer settings, including network and firmware configurations.

Reconfigure the printer from scratch.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
