Hi @Janeway-1701,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer is able to find your network but is unable to connect to it, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get your printer connected to the network.
-
Check Network Status:
- Make sure that your Wi-Fi network is operational and that other devices can connect to it without issues.
-
Network Name and Password:
- Verify that you are entering the correct SSID (Network Name) and Wi-Fi password on the printer. These credentials are case-sensitive, so be sure to enter them accurately.
-
Signal Strength:
- Ensure that your printer is within the range of your Wi-Fi router. Weak signal strength can cause connection problems. Move the printer closer to the router and try connecting again.
-
Wireless Mode:
- Some printers allow you to choose between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. Make sure your printer is configured to connect to the same band as your router. It's a common issue if your router has dual-band Wi-Fi.
-
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):
- If your router supports WPS, you can try connecting your printer using the WPS method. Press the WPS button on your router, and then within a few minutes, press the WPS button on your printer. Follow your printer's instructions for this process.
-
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in. Turn on the printer and try connecting it to your network again.
-
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 printer. Updating the firmware can often resolve connectivity issues.
-
Restart the Router:
- Reboot your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it from the power source for a minute and then plugging it back in. After the router restarts, try connecting the printer again.
-
Network Security:
- Make sure your Wi-Fi network is not using any highly advanced security features or configurations that may be incompatible with your printer. Try temporarily disabling any firewall or security software for troubleshooting purposes.
-
Static IP Address (Advanced):
- In some cases, setting a static IP address for your printer can resolve network connection issues. Consult your printer's manual or HP support for guidance on configuring a static IP address.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the thorough reply. I will work through your suggestions. I really believe the older hp printer is not compatible with my new router. I've spent a lot of time with the tech dept. for my router with no success connecting.
Thanks again for your efforts to help.
