HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

My printer is printing fine, howevver, it is making a squeeking sound as it prints and also when I copy something.  What could be wrong with it?  Should I take it to someplace like the Geek Squad to seee why it is doing this  The squeeking seems to be getting worse.

Thank for a reply.

Hi @Katiedid21,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A squeaking sound from your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw could be caused by various issues. Here are some common reasons and troubleshooting steps you can take.

Toner Cartridge Issue:

  • Check if the toner cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinsert them to ensure they are securely in place.
  • If the toner cartridges are low, empty, or damaged, they might produce unusual sounds. Consider replacing them if needed.

Paper Jam:

  • Check for any paper jams in the printer. Even a small piece of paper stuck inside can cause squeaking sounds. Open the printer and inspect for any paper debris.

Fuser Assembly:

  • The fuser assembly is responsible for heating and bonding the toner to the paper. If it's damaged or worn out, it might cause squeaking sounds. Consult the printer manual for instructions on checking the fuser assembly.

Transfer Belt or Roller Issues:

  • Inspect the transfer belt and rollers for any visible damage or debris. Clean them carefully with a lint-free cloth if necessary.

Drum Unit:

  • The drum unit may be a potential source of noise if it's not functioning correctly. Check for any signs of wear or damage, and consider replacing it if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
