HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

Our printer has been working fine for the last couple of years. We recently got a new wifi router and are no longer able to print wirelessly and the printer won't connect to the new wifi network, saying the password is incorrect even though it isn't. So I tried to go around this problem by just printing through a wired connection (USB into the computer). That won't even work on my MacBook Air saying it's offline in the queue, but on my mom's older MacBook Air, it works with no problem. I can't seem to find the root cause. And yes I restarted the router and the printer.

Hi @Joel143,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with a couple of connectivity issues with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot both the wireless and wired connection problems:

1. Wireless Connection Issue:

Verify the Network Credentials:

  • Double-check the WiFi network password. Make sure it matches exactly with the new router’s password (case-sensitive and without any extra spaces).

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there’s a firmware update for your printer. Firmware updates can help with connectivity issues. You can usually do this via the printer’s control panel or HP's website.

Reconnect to the Network:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard and select your new network to re-enter the password.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer, MacBook Air, and WiFi router. Sometimes a fresh start helps resolve connectivity issues.

Check Router Settings:

  • Ensure your router’s firewall or security settings aren’t blocking the printer. Sometimes, new routers have different security settings that may prevent devices from connecting.

Assign a Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer. This can sometimes help with network connectivity issues. Instructions for this can be found in your printer’s manual or online.

2. Wired Connection Issue:

Check USB Cable and Ports:

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the MacBook Air. Try a different USB port or a different USB cable if available.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers for your printer installed on your MacBook Air. You can download the latest drivers from HP’s website.

Set Printer as Default:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your MacBook Air. Select your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus from the list and make sure it is set as the default printer.

Check Printer Queue:

  • In the Printers & Scanners section, click on your printer and check the print queue. If there are any stuck print jobs, clear them out.

Reset Printing System:

  • If the issue persists, try resetting the printing system. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click in the printer list, and select Reset Printing System. Then, add your printer again.
