For my HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 a wireless network test result indicates the printer is unable to connect to the wireless router MAC address filtering may be enabled on the wireless router which can prevent the printer from connecting to the network during set up. The fiber optic company I spoke with is not able to alter filtering settings. The solution recommended by the test results suggest adding the MAC address of the printer to the list of permitted devices. I am unable at this point to locate in the OfficeJet system the IP address it continues to say “not applicable” it gives the hardware address the MAC. I don’t know where to find the IP address for this machine beyond where I’ve already looked in the menu options Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi @Ellie509,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
MAC filtering is a security feature on some routers that allows or denies devices from connecting to the network based on their MAC addresses.
Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue.
Check MAC Filtering Settings on Your Router:
- Access your router's settings through a web browser by typing the router's IP address into the address bar (usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
- Log in with your router's username and password. If you haven't changed these, they are often set to default values (check your router's manual for details).
- Look for the MAC filtering or Access Control section in your router's settings.
Find the Printer's MAC Address:
- On the printer, you can usually find the MAC address on a label or in the printer's network settings menu.
- Write down the printer's MAC address. It will look like a series of letters and numbers, formatted like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
Add the Printer's MAC Address:
- In the router's MAC filtering or Access Control settings, look for an option to add a device.
- Add the printer's MAC address to the allowed list.
Save Changes:
- After adding the MAC address, save the changes in your router's settings.
Restart Your Router:
- Reboot your router to apply the new MAC filtering settings.
Connect the Printer:
- Once your router has restarted, turn on the printer.
- Go to the printer's settings menu and select your home Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi network's password if prompted.
Test the Connection:
- Try to print a test page or use the printer to ensure it's connected to the Wi-Fi network successfully.
If you follow these steps and still cannot connect your printer, consider the following additional troubleshooting steps.
- Double-check that you entered the correct MAC address.
- Ensure that your router's firmware is up to date.
- Check if your router has multiple bands (e.g., 2.4GHz and 5GHz), and make sure the printer is trying to connect to the correct band.
- Temporarily disable MAC filtering to see if the printer can connect without it.
- If it works, you can re-enable it and double-check the MAC address entry.
