Hi! I don't know if this is a serious problem or not but I can't connect to my printer with my mobile phone. (Android 10) I have tried to set it up many times using HP Smart app. , however it can't get an ip address from my modem and can't complete the setting process. My phone tries to take an ip address during setting, but no use. More interesting, my printer connects to my wi-fi . By the way, both my phone and my printer are on the same wi-fi connection. And after my printer connects to wi-fi, my phone can't find the printer's name again during a new set up . So I reset the wifi settings on printer and start again. But it always gives the same error. Where is the problem? Is it about my modem settings or something wrong with my phone? I'm in a deadlock. Can anyone help me to get rid of this problem?

Hi @volkan10,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing connectivity issues between your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw printer and your Android phone. Let's troubleshoot this step by step.
- Check Wi-Fi Connection: Confirm that both your printer and your phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Since you mentioned they are on the same network, this seems to be in order, but it's always good to double-check.
- Printer Wi-Fi Settings: Ensure that the Wi-Fi settings on your printer are correctly configured. If you've reset the Wi-Fi settings on your printer, make sure you're connecting it to the correct network and entering the password accurately during the setup process.
- IP Address Assignment: It's strange that your phone can't obtain an IP address from your modem during the setup process. This might indicate an issue with your modem's settings. Check your modem's configuration to see if it's restricting new device connections or if there are any settings related to IP address assignment that could be causing issues.
- Router Settings: Sometimes, routers have settings like MAC address filtering or firewall rules that can block certain devices from connecting. Make sure your router settings allow both your printer and your phone to connect to the network.
- HP Smart App: Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your Android phone. Sometimes, updating the app can resolve compatibility issues.
- Network Reset on Phone: Try resetting the network settings on your Android phone. This can sometimes clear up any glitches with Wi-Fi connections.
- Alternative Setup Methods: If the HP Smart app continues to give you trouble, you can try setting up the printer using alternative methods, such as the printer's built-in control panel or the HP Printer Remote mobile app.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue preventing your Android phone from connecting to your HP printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
