Hello,
I am having difficulty with a printer that I have had for several years with out any problem using but now it appears that it goes into some sleep mode and somehow the network seems to forget it exists. I tried to research the printer on the HP app but it saves that their are no air printers found. I tried to put in the IP address and it still can not find it. This requires that when I want to print out something I need to either shut off the printer completely each time if more than an hour goes by since I last used it, or I have to search for a wireless network again and reenter the password again.
I-know that I can not shut off this sleep mode apparently but I am not sure why it seems to only be a problem since I moved here. I have Spectrum cable for wifi internet services only. Does anyone know anything that that can fix this problem?
The printer appears to still be connected to the network, but my I PHONE and I Pad devices can’t seem to find it on the network after a gap in use. It is supposed to re-awaken but it seems that is not working at all.
Thank you so much for your input. There is nothing wrong with the printer other than the fact that once it goes to sleep more

@KLeardi2016, Welcome to HP Support Community!
To be able to assist you better, I would like to know the following:
- Are the printer and PC connected to the same network?
- Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz?
- What is the distance between the router and the printer?
- Is there any antivirus software installed on your computer?
- Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?
Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.
The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.
Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.
Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have an HP 8720 and have the same issue. Once the printer goes into sleep mode it is not recognized by the network. I have to turn the printer off and then back on again to be able to print. It seems to have started occurring around the same time that the new firmware update was installed. Here are the answers to your questions:
- Are the printer and PC connected to the same network? YES but it also does not work on my iPhone or iPad which are also on the same network. When I look for the printer on my mobile devices they cannot find an AirPrint printer. This was not an issue before
- Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz? Yes my router is both 2.4 and 5GHz enabled
- What is the distance between the router and the printer? the printer is less than a meter from the router
- Is there any antivirus software installed on your computer? There is no antivirus on my computer or mobile devices
