Hi @Carol1357,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it on.

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure the printer is securely connected to your computer or network.
  • For a wired connection, verify that the USB or Ethernet cable is properly connected.
  • For a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your HP notebook and any other devices connected to the printer.

Update Printer Firmware:

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support page.
    • Search for your HP Envy Photo 6220 printer model and download any available firmware updates.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updates.

Configure Printer Settings:

Set Printer to Online:

  • On your HP notebook, open the Control Panel.
  • Navigate to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP Envy Photo 6220 printer and select See what's printing.
  • In the Printer menu, ensure Use Printer Offline is not checked.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix network and connectivity issues.

Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi:

Re-establish Wi-Fi Connection:

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the wireless settings.
  • Choose to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network. Enter the network credentials if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi,

Thank you for your reply but it did not work... I did everything you wrote.  when I get to update Firmware, Hp notebook could not find my printer.

I could not go further.  Do you think it's time to buy new printer?

Hi @Carol1357,

Thank you for the response.

Try these steps:

Manually Add Printer Using IP Address

On the printer's control panel, go to Network SettingsWireless Summary.

Note the IP address shown (e.g., 192.168.1.xxx).

On your HP Notebook:

Open Control PanelDevices and PrintersAdd a printer.

Choose “The printer that I want isn’t listed.”

Select Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname → click Next.

Enter the IP address you noted earlier.

Let Windows install the driver.

Assign a Static IP Address

Visit the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):

Open a browser on your laptop.

Type the IP address from step 1 in the address bar and press Enter.

Go to Network > Wireless > IPv4 Configuration.

Select Manual IP, and apply settings to prevent the IP from changing.

Check Power-Saving Settings (Auto-Off)

On the printer:

Tap the Setup icon (gear) > Preferences > Auto-Off.

Disable Auto-Off or change it to a longer timeout duration.

Temporarily Connect via USB

Plug the printer into your notebook via USB.

Try updating the firmware now via HP Smart or HP Software & Driver Downloads.

Once the firmware is updated, remove the USB and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

 Factory Reset the Printer

If nothing else works, try a full reset:

On the printer, tap the Setup icon > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.

Reconnect it to Wi-Fi via the control panel and try adding it again.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi, thank you so much for your reply.   I tried everything you mentioned except using USB cable which I do not have.  After printer is factory reset. I went to HP smart and found no icon on Printer. So I performed fix troubleshoot.  Surprisingly it said no issue found.  Then I still not be able to print and scan.  For printing, every time I restart the hp notebook, Printer worked.  Scan never worked, always unavailable.  how can I fix this?

Thank you for your help.  I could not solve the problem so HP agent ring me and used remote access to solve the problem.  It was very easy for her , now I can use my printer and scanner.  thanks anyway.
