HI @ZiggyNyc,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer is broadcasting its own Wi-Fi network—this is typically part of Wi-Fi Direct or HP Wireless Setup Mode. When you connect to the printer's network, your device disconnects from your main Wi-Fi, which is why you lose internet access.
Here’s how to fix this and get your printer back on your main Wi-Fi network:
Option 1: Disable Wi-Fi Direct (if not needed)
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings or Network Setup.
- Look for Wi-Fi Direct.
- Set it to Off or Disabled.
This stops the printer from broadcasting its own network.
Option 2: Reconnect Printer to Your Wi-Fi Network
- On the printer, go to Wireless Settings.
- Choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Select your home Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Once connected, your printer will be on the same network as your devices.
Option 3: Use HP Smart App
- Download the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
- Connect to the printer’s temporary network (the one it’s broadcasting).
- Open the app and go to Printer Settings > Network Setup.
- Choose your home Wi-Fi and enter the password.
- The printer will switch to your main network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
