I recently purchased a Hp 2820e printer.
I've set up up however whenever I click to print something it states it printing however it isn't. I've then tried printing it via my S20 mobile and it then shows as its printing then finished printing when its done nothing.
I also have an issue where the printer randomly goes offline or displays as unavailable. Its sitting beside the wifi hub
I also ensured the wifi connection is 2.4ghz as required.

Hi @Sharon-r,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there may be multiple issues affecting your HP DeskJet 2820e All-in-One Printer. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve these problems.
Check Printer Status:
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check for Error Messages: Make sure there are no error messages or blinking lights on the printer's display panel.
Ensure Proper Wi-Fi Connection:
- Reconfirm Wi-Fi Connection: Double-check that the printer is connected to the correct 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Ensure the Wi-Fi signal is strong, given that the printer is placed close to the Wi-Fi hub.
- Reconnect Wi-Fi: If necessary, go through the Wi-Fi setup process again using the HP Smart app on your mobile device or computer.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for Updates: Make sure the printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can do this via the HP Smart app:
- Open the HP Smart app on your mobile or PC.
- Go to "Printer Settings."
- Look for a "Check for Updates" option and follow the instructions if an update is available.
Set the Printer as the Default Printer:
- On your computer:
- Windows: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners. Select your HP DeskJet 2820e and click Set as default.
- Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, and set the HP DeskJet 2820e as the default printer.
Resolve Offline or Unavailable Status:
- Printer Restart: Restart both your printer and your router.
- Disable and Re-enable Wi-Fi Direct: On your printer, navigate to Wi-Fi Direct settings, turn it off, wait a moment, and then turn it back on.
- Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed on your computer. You can download them from the HP Support website.

Print a Test Page:
- Try printing a test page from the printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart app to see if it’s able to print.
Reinstall the Printer:
- Remove and Re-add Printer:
- On Windows, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and remove it. Then, add it back again.
- On Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and click the minus sign (-) to remove it. Then, click the plus sign (+) to add it again.
Mobile Printing Issue:
- Clear Cache: On your S20 mobile, clear the cache of the HP Smart app by going to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache.
- Reinstall HP Smart App: Uninstall and then reinstall the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store.
Test Printing:
- Try printing from different devices (e.g., computer, mobile) after performing the steps above.
If the issue persists after following these steps, there might be a deeper problem with the printer's network settings or hardware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
