Hi @MichelleChapman

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Apologies for the trouble—your HP DeskJet 2721e may need a network reset to connect to your new router. Here’s how to troubleshoot:

Restore Network Defaults

  • Press and hold the Wireless (Wi-Fi) button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • This resets the printer’s network settings.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button and Resume button together for 3 seconds.
  • The Wi-Fi Direct icon should appear, indicating the printer is ready to connect.

Connect Your Computer or Phone to the Printer

  • On your device, go to Wi-Fi settings and select the printer’s DIRECT-XX-HP DeskJet 2721e network.
  • If prompted for a password, enter 12345678 (default HP Wi-Fi Direct password).

Access Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Open a browser and type 192.168.223.1 in the address bar.
  • Navigate to Network Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your home Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Print a Network Configuration Page

  • Press the Information button (i) on the printer to print a status page.
  • Verify that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (For Windows Users)

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose connection issues.
  • Get it here.

Thanks for the reply. I cannot connect to get as far as the Direct part and it does ask for a password, but 12345678 does not work. I have never changed the password. So I am stuck there.

@MichelleChapman

I appreciate all your efforts and patience.

It sounds like your printer’s Wi-Fi Direct password isn’t working, which can be frustrating. Some HP printers have a default password, but if 12345678 isn’t working, here are some steps to retrieve or reset it:

Steps to Find or Reset the Wi-Fi Direct Password

Print a Network Configuration Page

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Information button together for 5 seconds.
  • A page will print showing the Wi-Fi Direct password.

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 10 seconds.
  • This resets the printer’s network settings, allowing you to reconnect.

If the issue persists, let me know what steps you’ve tried, and I’ll help further! Hope this helps.
