Hi @Ria64,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer is having trouble connecting to your network. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue.
Restart Devices
- Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Router: Unplug your router for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
- Phone: Restart your phone to ensure it's not a phone-specific issue.
Check Printer's Network Connection
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings or Network Settings. Try running a Wireless Network Test or Network Configuration Report to identify any issues with the connection.
- If your network name doesn’t appear, make sure your router is broadcasting its SSID (network name) and that it's on the same frequency as your printer (either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
Forget Wi-Fi Network on Printer
If the printer is trying to connect to the wrong network:
- Go to Wi-Fi settings and choose the option to forget or remove the current network.
- Then, try reconnecting the printer to the correct Wi-Fi network by entering the credentials manually.
Reset Printer's Network Settings
If the printer is still not connecting, you can reset the network settings:
- For most HP printers: Go to the Network Setup menu on the printer's display, and choose Restore Network Defaults.
- This will reset the network settings and allow you to reconfigure the connection.
Reconfigure Wi-Fi Connection
- After resetting, try connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network again by following the on-screen prompts.
- You can also use the HP Smart app or the WPS method (if your router supports it) to connect the printer.
Printer Password
- The password your phone is asking for might be related to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct feature. If the printer is trying to connect via Wi-Fi Direct, you should find the default password in the printer’s manual or on a sticker located on the printer.
- If you’ve forgotten this password and are unable to reset it, you may need to do a factory reset on the printer, but be aware this will erase all settings.
Update Printer Firmware
- If your printer is still not connecting, check for any available firmware updates. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
