Hi @opmas,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One Printer is stuck on "Shutting Down," it usually indicates a software or hardware issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
  2. Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the Power Cord: Plug the printer back into the wall outlet directly (avoid power strips or surge protectors).
  4. Turn it On: Press the power button to restart the printer.

2. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

If the printer powers on normally, it may be a firmware issue. Update the firmware:

  1. Go to HP Smart or the printer’s Embedded Web Server. Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
  2. Check for any available firmware updates.
  3. Download and install updates following on-screen instructions.

3. Factory Reset the Printer

Performing a reset can resolve software glitches:

  1. On the printer's control panel, navigate to:
    • Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  2. Confirm when prompted to reset the printer to factory settings.

4. Inspect the Power Button

If the issue persists, the power button could be faulty:

  1. Gently press the power button to check for physical damage or a stuck state.
  2. If the button feels jammed, gently wiggle it to free it.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

If none of the above steps work:

  1. Disconnect the printer.
  2. Open the printer and check for any mechanical obstructions or jammed parts that could be causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
