HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

My printer will only print the first page of any document, regardless if it says "print all" or if I select "pages 1-5", as an example.

Hi @Stickball4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is only printing the first page of each document, even when you specify multiple pages, this issue could be caused by a variety of factors. Here’s a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help resolve the problem:

1. Check Printer Settings:

  • Print Dialog Box: When you initiate a print job, ensure that the print settings are correctly configured. Verify that you’ve selected the correct page range and that any options like “Print Current Page” are not inadvertently selected.

2. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Windows:
    1. Go to Device Manager (right-click Start and select Device Manager).
    2. Expand the Printers or Print queues section.
    3. Right-click on your printer and select Update driver.
    4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software

3. Check Print Spooler:

  • Windows:
    1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Locate Print Spooler in the list of services.
    3. Right-click and select Restart to clear any issues with print jobs being stuck.

4. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the printer HP website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your model. Follow their instructions for updating the firmware, as this can resolve various issues.

5. Verify Printer Settings:

  • Print Preferences: Open your printer’s properties or preferences through the Control Panel or Printers & Scanners settings. Ensure that there are no settings configured to limit print jobs to one page.

6. Try Different Applications:

  • Test printing from different applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF Reader) to determine if the issue is application-specific. If it works correctly in some apps but not others, the problem might be with the specific application’s print settings.

7. Check for Print Job Errors:

  • Error Messages: Look for any error messages on the printer’s display or in the print queue that might indicate a problem with the print job.
  • Document Size and Format: Ensure that the document you’re trying to print is not corrupted and is in a format supported by your printer.

8. Reset Printer:

  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you might need to perform a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings to their default values. Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

9. Check for Physical Issues:

  • Paper and Cartridges: Ensure that there are no paper jams or issues with the ink/toner cartridges. Check that all components are properly installed and functioning.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
