Hi @Shehawk
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That kind of flaky connection can drive anyone up the wall — especially when everything looks fine but the printer keeps slipping offline. Let’s lock it down with a thorough fix-it plan tailored for HP printers:
1. Restart Everything
- Power off the printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Restart your computer and router.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
2. Check Network Connection
- Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- On the printer’s control panel, print a Network Configuration Page to confirm IP address and signal strength.
3. Assign a Static IP
- On the printer: Setup > Network Settings > Advanced > IP Settings.
- Choose Manual and assign a static IP (e.g., 192.168.1.250) to prevent the router from changing it randomly.
4. Disable IPv6
- On the printer: Network Settings > Advanced > IPv6 → turn it off.
- This avoids confusion with older devices and networks.
5. Update Printer Drivers
- Visit HP’s official offline troubleshooting page and download the latest full-feature driver for your printer model and OS.
6. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)
- In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.
7. Check Windows Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer → Set as Default.
- Make sure “Use Printer Offline” is unchecked.
8. Firewall & Antivirus Exceptions
- Temporarily disable third-party firewalls or antivirus software.
- Add HP Smart and printer services to the allowed list.
If you’re on a Mac or using a specific HP model, I can tailor these steps even further. Want help assigning a static IP or checking your router settings next?
