My wireless printer will not print from my laptop or iphone. It will print as a copier.  I go to windows document, click print, printer comes on, says printing, bar comes out, says finishing printing.  Nothing printed.

The print settings depend on the app you are using to print.

  • Are you using the HP Smart app to print?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

For now, you may refer to - HP print settings guide (Windows, Mac)

@hutcht, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

 

I understand you are not able to print. To assist you better,

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • Do you get a blank page when you try printing or nothing at all?

If you are able to make copies, it means the printer hardware is working fine.

 

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

I still need help!! I ran the download printed the test page and it came out.  Got excited, went to print a document. Of course it didn't print!!!!! In the meantime, I deleted the download. It will not let me redownload the scan doctor. I noticed in the printers and devices next to mine it says SCAN ONLY.  Would that have anything to do with it.  Now I am stuck!!!

You have not answered my questions.

  • Which application are you trying to print from? Are you using the HP Smart app?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • Do you get a blank page when you try printing or nothing at all?

If the printer only shows up as Scan, it means the printer is not installed properly. Print drivers are not installed.

Hi!!! You’re a genius!!! From my iPhone I just printed from a website, a word document and a photo from my photos and it printed!!! I tried from the same site and word document from laptop and it was a fail. I click print, the printer comes on and says printing and then stops. No blank page comes out either.  So I guess it’s my laptop. Any ideas? By the way I really appreciate your help!!

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

Check for any pending Windows updates first.

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Remove the existing printer entry > click on Add a printer(at the top) 
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing. open File > Print (Do not use the HP Smart app)

Hello again!!!! OK Ive messed up again! Somewhere along the way I noticed where it said print all text in black and white.  Wiell I clicked it thinking it was for one page I was printing to save my color. Well now my printer will not print in color and the option is not even there. Researching I found if you do what I did it only prints black and white.  Where did I change it? My husband said all I have to do is change my defaults. Well he doesn't see where there is a choice to change anything with color period.  What did I do?
