Hi  @neilpickersgil,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must be to have your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e series printer showing as connected but not actually printing.

Kindly check on the below steps :

  1. Check Printer IP Address On the printer’s control panel, print a network configuration page. Verify that the printer has a valid IP address from your new router. If it shows 169.x.x.x or blank, it’s not properly connected to the network.
  2. Update Printer Firmware Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues. Visit HP’s support website https://support.hp.com/  and download the latest firmware for your model.
  3. Reinstall HP Smart App Remove the printer from the HP Smart app, uninstall the app, then reinstall it. Add the printer again using the app to ensure proper driver installation.
  4. Test USB Connection Connect the printer directly via USB (without Wi-Fi) and try printing a test page. If this works, the issue is likely network-related.
  5. Router Settings Check Some new routers block devices on 2.4 GHz or isolate Wi-Fi Direct connections. Ensure your printer and PC are on the same band (preferably 2.4 GHz) and disable “AP isolation” or “guest mode” if enabled.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the info, however, I still cannot connect to the internet with my printer, I have found out that the router is kicking out the 169.xxx and as yet the router people don't know why it is a fixed router to which i don't have access to so am relying on those people, The firmware is 6.32.6.8-202602030648 which is up to date

apparently. I have disabled wi-fi and tried to connect my pc to the printer with USB, however, not even this will work, I was with sky broadband for 10 years and 2 years with my printer (which is still in warranty for another 3 weeks) and I was wondering if the printer is bust???

Hi @neilpickersgil,

Thanks for your response.

I understand how  it must be when your printer won’t connect either via Wi-Fi or USB, especially with warranty time running short. Based on the details you’ve shared  the 169.xxx IP assignment issue, router restrictions, and the fact that even USB isn’t working  this does suggest that the printer hardware itself may need inspection.

Since your printer is still under warranty, To get you the best assistance, we need to take this conversation to a private chat. We're inviting you to a private message to protect your privacy and ensure that any sensitive information remains confidential.
