Does HP have any plans to support off subnet printers.  It is a bit ridiculous in this day and age you cannot support a printer via a local router especially when the OS and the Application support and understand the IP address.  I am amazed this printer lacks this support.

If my workstation is connected via Ethernet and my printer is on a WLAN which is different it should still work.

As long as they are on a SAME router this should work.  I did have a loan HP 8610 printer few years back to test and I did test  using the following setup

and it worked.

Can you ping your printer from your computer ?

Regards.

Yes, I can ping the device but it always shows offline.  I can connect via wireless and it works fine.  It is not a reachabilty issue at L3 but seems to be a broadcast domain issue.  Not sure how the printer communication protocol operates.
