Hi @engcapt, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is showing "Networking Capabilities are not available" and you are unable to enable networking even after a factory reset, try the following steps:

Check the Network Reset Option on the Printer

  1. On the printer Control Panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  2. Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

Power Cycle the Printer & Router

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Restart your Wi-Fi router and wait for it to be fully operational.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Network Adapter Issues

  • Go to Settings > Reports > Print Wireless Test Report and check if it shows any hardware errors.
  • If the wireless adapter is faulty, the printer may not detect networking capabilities.

Update Printer Firmware (USB Required)

Since networking is unavailable, update the firmware via USB connection:

  1. Connect your Mac to the printer using a USB cable.
  2. Download the latest firmware update for your printer from the HP Support website.
  3. Install the firmware update and restart the printer.

Try Wired Ethernet Connection

  • If Wi-Fi is disabled, test whether the Ethernet connection works by connecting the printer to your router via a LAN cable.
  • If Ethernet does not work, the network module inside the printer might be faulty.

Hardware Failure Possibility

  • If all steps fail and the printer still shows Networking Capabilities are not available, the network module (Wi-Fi & Ethernet) might have failed.
  • Workaround: Use the printer via USB or try HP Smart App on iPhone/iPad for direct printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
