@Seinasek, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your HP DeskJet 2842e not detecting your Wi-Fi network during setup. Based on your description, your Wi-Fi is running on Channel 13 (2.4 GHz, 20 MHz), but the printer can't see it. Let's walk through the issue and how to resolve it.

While your printer only supports 2.4 GHz, not all 2.4 GHz channels are supported in every region. Channel 13, although valid in many countries, is not supported by HP printers in some regions, especially in North America. This is why your printer sees other networks but not yours.

Steps to Fix It

Option 1: Change Your Wi-Fi Channel

  1. Log in to your Wi-Fi router settings (usually by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in your browser).
  2. Go to Wireless Settings > 2.4 GHz Band.
  3. Change the Wi-Fi Channel from 13 to 1, 6, or 11, these are universally supported.
  4. Save and reboot your router.
  5. Restart your printer and try the setup again using the HP Smart app.

Tip: Channels 1, 6, and 11 are non-overlapping and offer the best compatibility.

Option 2: Use HP Smart App with Bluetooth Setup

If you can't change the router settings:

  1. Download the HP Smart app on your phone or PC: HP Smart
  2. Enable Bluetooth and Location Services on your device.
  3. Reset the printer’s network settings:
    • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on the printer for 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.
  4. Open HP Smart and follow the prompts to add a new printer.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
