We just upgraded from Google Fiber 1 to GF the 3-Gigabit system. My "older" HP Envy 5000 won't connect to Wi-Fi now, but the other 4100 series will. I can't find an 8-digit WPS PIN on the printer, nor can I find a password for the printer. There's a Wi-Fi Direct Password, but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Hi @Tom2Bender,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
You're dealing with a Wi-Fi compatibility issue that often comes up when upgrading to newer, faster routers like the Google Fiber 3 Gigabit system. The HP ENVY 5055, being an older model, only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi—not the newer 5 GHz or 6 GHz bands that the new router likely defaults to.
Here's a breakdown of what to do:
Step 1: Enable 2.4 GHz on Your New Router
Even though the 3-Gig system uses advanced bands, most routers can still broadcast a 2.4 GHz signal.
On Google Fiber routers:
- Open a web browser and go to: http://fiber.google.com or the IP address provided for your router.
- Log in to the router settings.
- Under Network Settings, look for Advanced Wi-Fi Settings.
- Enable the 2.4 GHz band if it’s not already.
- If the router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one SSID (common), try temporarily separating them into two network names:
- e.g., HomeWiFi_2.4 and HomeWiFi_5
✅ This will let the Envy 5055 specifically connect to the 2.4GHz one.
Step 2: Restore Only Network Settings (Wi-Fi Reset)
🧭 Steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Wireless icon (📶).
- Tap the Settings icon (gear ⚙️).
- Tap Restore Network Settings.
- Confirm the reset when prompted.
After that:
- Tap Print Reports (usually under Wireless Settings) → Network Configuration Page to confirm the reset.
- Look for: “Status: Not connected” and default IP address like 0.0.0.0.
Step 3: HP Smart App installation:
Please uninstall the HP Smart app --> restart the Device, Wi-Fi router & Printer --> install it back and add the Printer
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
