Issue: My Smart Tank 6001 Wireless All-in-One printer won’t connect to WiFi after switching to a new Gateway modem/router. It worked fine before the change.
Troubleshooting steps tried:
- Reset modem, printer, and computer/mobile.
- Held the WiFi button on the printer to reset connections.
- Removed the printer from my HP account but can’t find it via WiFi to re-add.
Additional info:
- Modem, printer, and computer locations remain unchanged.
- HP app on both computer and mobile hasn’t helped.
Looking for: Other solutions to reconnect my printer to WiFi.

Hi @Andrewh001
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊
It’s frustrating to have your printer suddenly disconnected from Wi-Fi after switching to a new gateway modem/router.
Let’s dive into additional steps to re-establish the connection for your HP Smart Tank 6001 Wireless All-in-One:
1. Restore network default settings on the printer.
Press and hold the Wi-Fi Button and the Power Button together until the light starts blinking. This fully resets network settings.
Once the light blinks, the printer is ready for setup.
2. Use the HP Smart App for Setup
If the app didn’t work earlier, try this sequence:
Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to the same new Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
Open the HP Smart App and tap the "+" icon to add the printer.
If the app doesn’t find the printer, ensure Bluetooth is enabled (required for initial setup).
Follow the prompts to configure Wi-Fi settings within the app.
3. Use Wi-Fi Direct to Access the Printer
Temporarily connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network:
Press the Wi-Fi Button on the printer to enable Wi-Fi Direct mode.
On your computer or mobile device, go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the printer’s direct network (e.g., “HP-Print-XXXX”).
Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing 192.168.223.1 into your browser.
Navigate to Wireless Settings and input the new Wi-Fi network details (SSID and password). Save changes and restart the printer.
4. Verify Router Compatibility
Ensure your new router broadcasts on the 2.4 GHz band, as many HP printers don’t support 5 GHz:
Check your router settings and enable the 2.4 GHz band if necessary.
If dual bands are enabled, ensure your device and printer connect to the same 2.4 GHz network during setup.
5. Update Printer Firmware
HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

6. Test with a Different Device.
Use another device (e.g., a laptop or tablet) to attempt the connection. Sometimes one device works better during setup than another.
