We just purchased a new Windows 11 laptop (HP) and setup to old HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer was easy and works perfectly (WSD - IPP Port). However, something in the process now caused an older Windows 10 laptop (HP) to no longer be able to print - printer offline.
I have tried so many things:
- Unplug the printer cord from back of printer (etc)
- Utilize Print & Scan Dr on old laptop
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the printer on the old HP
- Setting the printer to a manual IP (when I did this and chose the new Standard TCP/IP Port from new computer it did not work, had to go back to WSD port)
- Etc - random other things I read online - nothing worked but willing to try again
But have not been able to correct the problem permanently. Through this several week process it has intermittently come online, but then a restart of the router will cause it to go offline again.
All are connecting to a Netgear wireless mesh router on the same network - but interestingly I cannot access the embedded web server on the old laptop, but I can on the new laptop. I think I am on to something here, but not sure where to go. Looking for any help!
Thanks so much!

Welcome to the HP community page.
I understand that you are getting printer offline error, I am glad to assist you.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix connectivity and printing issues.
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
-
Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
-
If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
-
If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
-
If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
-
If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
-
Try to print.
.Assign a manual IP address to manually connect the printer.
Find the printer IP address to assign it manually.
-
Load plain white paper into the input tray.
-
On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon
, and then touch the Settings icon
.
-
Touch Print Reports, and then touch Network Configuration Page.
Setting a Static IP Address
Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:
- Run your Web browser.
- In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
- Click the Networking tab.
- Under Connections, click Wireless.
- Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
- Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
- Click Apply.

Thank you so much for your reply. As I mentioned in my original post I did try the HP Print & Scan Dr and I also set up the manual IP. Neither of them worked for my issue. I also followed another thread and completely removed and reinstalled the software, which didn't correct the issue either.
I found it really strange that I could log in to the embedded web server for the printer on the new computer but not the old one which seemed really really strange. I confirmed that I was definitely on the same wifi network (both by visually looking at the logins and going into my router and seeing all 3 of the devices listed).
I mentioned that randomly it will just start working and sure enough a day after I made this post it started up again...so there isn't anything I can try right now, but would be happy if you have any more ideas to try when it goes offline again.
Thanks!

@JPD852
If the printer goes offline again, update the printer firmware and run print and scan doctor to fix the issue.
Here are the steps to update printer firmware:- Click here

Both of those options were done! No update needed for firmware and the print & scan dr couldn't find the printer.
I think I may have resolved the problem myself after hours of playing around with different options and reading-reading-reading other threads for a nugget of info.
The root cause is when the Windows 10 computer can no longer "see" the printer on the embedded web server. I need to go to the mesh router and enable the WPS, then "add a new printer" to the computer. This has worked a couple of times for me in the past month.
I have had this mesh router for about a year and when I had 2 windows 10 computers and the TCP port set up I had no problems. When I replaced one of the windows 10 computers with a new windows 11, something happened to begin to cause these issues with the 2nd old windows 10 computer. I am sure that if I called into support they could have figured it out, but my workaround solves the issue sort of.
Thank you for your time!
