HP DeskJet Plus 4155 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I got a new router and changed the network name and password. My wireless printer wouldn't connect, so I removed it for the HP Smart app to start over. The app finds the printer but won't connect to the wifi. Does anyone have any tips? I've restarted the printer (holding down the button and unplugging it) and the router multiple times. I have been at this since yesterday. I want to be able to use my printer. It's only five years old.

I tried everything and nothing worked. I went to a store and bought a USB cord, and it's all set; just can't be used wirelessly.

Hi @RAR1820,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP DeskJet Plus 4155 Wi-Fi connectivity!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Ensure Printer is in Setup Mode:

  • When you reset your printer, make sure it is in Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) mode. This mode allows the printer to search for a Wi-Fi signal during setup. You can enable AWC mode by pressing the Wireless button on your printer for about 20 seconds until the Attention LED and Power LED start blinking simultaneously.

Check Network and Password:

  • Ensure you are entering the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. They are case-sensitive.

Verify Wi-Fi Settings:

  • Make sure your router is set to a compatible frequency band (2.4 GHz is recommended for most HP printers).

Use HP Smart App Properly:

  • Open the HP Smart app and select the option to add a new printer. Follow the onscreen instructions carefully to ensure the printer and your mobile device are on the same network.

Distance and Barriers:

  • Ensure your printer is within a reasonable range of the router and there are no major physical barriers that might interrupt the signal.

Restart Devices:

  • You have already restarted the printer and router, but it may be helpful to also restart your mobile device or computer.

Firewall & Security:

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or network security software that might be blocking the connection.

Limited Connectivity Check:

  • If your printer connects but shows limited connectivity, try restarting the network and ensure there’s no interference from other devices.

Try Different Setup Method:

  • If connection still fails, consider setting up the printer using a USB cable first to confirm it works, then switch to wireless.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi,

I tried all those steps, but nothing worked. I downgraded my Wi-Fi from WPA3 to WPA2, but that still didn't work. It's to the point where the HP Smart app is telling me that the Wi-Fi password is incorrect. I had my provider out to check things today and he suggested that the printer might just be too old to connect to the newer technology of this router.

Hi @RAR1820,

Thank you for sharing that update. You’ve done a great job trying all the right steps already, and I really appreciate the details. I know how frustrating this is, especially when you just want your trusted printer to work with the new network.

A few extra checks and options you can try:

Double-check your router’s Wi-Fi mode:
Some newer routers default to WPA3 or “WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode,” which can confuse older printers.
Make sure your Wi-Fi security is set to WPA2-Personal (AES) only, not WPA3 or mixed mode.
Also, ensure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled and broadcasting a separate SSID if possible.

Simplify the Wi-Fi name & password:
Try using a simple network name and password temporarily (no special characters, under 8–12 characters, only letters and numbers) to rule out compatibility hiccups.

Try WPS (if your router supports it):

On your printer, press and hold the Wireless button until it starts blinking.

Press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes.

Wait for the wireless light to stay solid.

USB fallback setup:

Connect your printer to your PC with a USB cable.

Run the HP Easy Start or HP Smart software, and choose Wireless Setup during installation.

Let the software push your Wi-Fi credentials through the USB.

Once connected, you can unplug the cable.

I hope this helps.
