Thank you! I'm going to try this out now, since the code I'm using (acme.sh, a shell port of the ACME client) I believe includes the entire chain when building the pfx file. I'm somewhat disheartened that users are having to do all of this experimentation ourselves rather than have an employee of HP just, you know, support the printers, the one physical product this industry titan turned stock-buyback-program (retired 38% in the last five years!) still makes that might be worth purchasing. Oh well.

The solution was to have the certificate file not include any root or intermediate certificates.

Doesn't work for me. My certificate file already contains the only certificate, not the full chain

I had the same issue though I was using a GoDaddy certificate. I had to DOWNGRADE the firmware to get the certificate to installed. There is something clearly broken past 20211221 and I don't know why HP hasn't fixed this. SSL Certificates should be a top priority. 😠

I don't know if this is helpful at all for debugging, but if I exported the key/cert that the printer self-generated, I could import it in without issue. The moment I used its key however to generate a CSR and tried to import a signed cert, it rejected it. I also noticed you can not upload CA's either to the printer. It feels almost like it notices the certificate is part of a chain and regardless if you provide said chain or not, it rejects the base64 certificate.
