HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw

Product Pro MFP M182nw, color laserjet.  Trying to go through wireless set up to connect the printer to a Google Nest router. The display gives an option of Wireless Protected Setup. Within that, two options: PIN and Pushbutton.  Pushbutton doesn't work because the only method is push the WPS button the router, which Nest does not have.  Tried pin, and it shows a pin code to enter, but no idea where to enter it.  I entered the pin on the touchpad, but nothing happens. There's a continue option under the pin code and I hit the OK button, but it just brings up a dialog for number of copies.  I'm not sure if I'm supposed to enter the pin somewhere on the Google Home app.  Installed the HP Smart app on my phone, but no options to help with printer wireless setup.  Tried searching the internet but could find no discussions involving this model printer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Did find this on the forum https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Wireless-Networking-Internet/mfp-m182nw/m-p/8289428, but didn't help.  Maybe another question:  is this model of laserjet compatible with security protocols other than WPS?  Based on this https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06509660#AbT2, looks like it should be.  ***EDIT***  This was partly resolved. Used the virtual assistant on the HP support site, told the assistant the first solution did not help, then selected the options for connecting to a wireless network. It gave me a link to download the software on the computer. Did that.  Had to hook up laptop via cable to the printer, which then proceeded to find the wireless network. However, I couldn't finish the process because it kept saying that it couldn't find the device, although another screen in the workflow said it was already connected to the network. So I just unhooked the cable, shutdown the software installation process, went through the print steps of a text document, had to add the HP printer through the Windows "add printer" function. I think it may've been the HP Smart app that opened and prompted me to enter a pin, which was displayed on the printer. Entered the pin, went back to printing the text document, and it printed.  Geez. Not a very user-friendly experience.  Shutdown the laptop. Restarted and tried a wireless print again and it wouldn't print. Had to repeat the set up process. Managed to wireless print. Shutdown the laptop. Restarted,  Wireless print failed. No error message. Just did nothing. So, back to square one

I ended up contacting HP Support via chat and then they remoted to my laptop. Even the tech support struggled for a bit until I noticed an IP address displayed on the printer screen. From that point tech support did a manual ip set up. I do not recall seeing an IP address appear when I first tried set up earlier in the week.

Hi @cardsfan2011,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your wifi issues MFP M182nw laserjet wireless connection issue Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
  • May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
